ILLUMINATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP
Are you feeling disconnected from your partner? Like you’re on two separate pages…or planets?
Sometimes we reach a point in relationships where we need an outside perspective or translator to help us reconnect and communicate more effectively. Especially in long-term relationships, we can feel taken for granted, not heard or understood anymore, and this leads to resentment, pain, and disconnection. This is where we can really help you and your relationship to not only survive, but to thrive.
Relationship counseling is a bit different from individual therapy in that the people aren’t really the client – the relationship is the client. We look at each person in the relationship’s history, goals, and attachment style (your personal needs to feel loved, respected, and connected – as opposed to abandoned or smothered).
Using active, hands-on tools to work toward your relationship goals, you will learn how to communicate “non-violently,” meaning without blame or shame, so that you will really be heard and understood in a deeper way than ever by your partner. You will also learn self-soothing techniques and ways of fighting more fairly so we can reduce your recovery time after an argument and get back to the loving relationship you both want and deserve faster.
We also enjoy helping people with ADHD and artists/non-artists in relationships. In other words, we help couples with dramatically different worldviews juggling complex lives navigate their differences in a productive, healthy way that promotes love and understanding. This is also a safe place for non-traditional relationships to explore and express their wants, needs, and desires in a warm, supportive environment.
This can also be a great place to see if this is still the relationship you want. Sometimes, we can sit on the fence for a really long time, unsure if we should stay or go. When you enter into relationship counseling, we ask you to commit fully to working on the relationship throughout the duration of counseling, with the hope that you will see clearly if this person is still the one you want, or if it’s time to move on. If you decide to end the relationship, we can also help you separate in a healthy way.
Relationship counseling requires quite a bit of work, but you and your relationship are worth it! Many couples report that working through their issues in therapy opens up fresh new channels of communication and that they feel closer with a deeper connection than ever.
We are honored to work with you through your particular relationship challenges and help you to have the relationship you desire.
