Mika Tjahja, LPC-Associate

Supervised by Wen-Mei Chou, Ph.D., LMFT-S, LPC-S

You are worthy. I became a professional counselor to help people learn their worth.

I believe that therapy requires being truly present and vulnerable with another person, which ultimately creates connection and hope. Therapy can be hard, but I can assure you that I will be right beside you to help on the journey. Therapy requires you to show up, put forth the necessary effort, and to try your best. I understand that some days are harder than others—I will meet you where life finds you. You deserve to have someone alongside you, eager to help you, whether that help comes in the form of allowing you to not only see but to reach your full potential, assisting you to determine the real cause of your anxiety or self-esteem issues and solutions to help manage those negative thoughts, or teaching the tools to navigate the path towards any number of goals you may have.

Understanding who you are, what you want, and what you need is a crucial step to live a more fulfilled life with healthier relationships; I can help you do this. My aim is to help you recognize how your own thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors influence how effective you are in accomplishing your goals and influence the control you feel you have over your mind, body, and life. I will help you to establish or reestablish a connection with yourself and with others and to find meaning in life.

My approach to counseling includes a number of research-informed modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Integrative Neuroscience Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Maslow’s Hierarchy, Mindfulness-based Therapies, and Attachment Theory.

My therapeutic presence is Person-Centered and Relational Gestalt, which helps you experience acceptance, genuineness, empathy, and awareness. I believe that keeping you in the present, using gentle confrontation, and educating you on unfinished business will grant awareness and will ultimately empower you to live an honest, happier, and more fulfilled life.

I received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. I have clinical experience working with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, relationship issues, communication issues, religious trauma recovery, and trauma.

I would be honored to work with you and to be a part of your journey of learning your value and feeling better.
